Public procurement MCP and supplier intelligence

Investigate a supplier from every angle.

DataGardener MCP lets a procurement team's AI agent discover UK suppliers, check their financial resilience, ownership and director history, and see their public-sector awards and spend with other buyers. Every answer carries its source and date, which is what supplier due diligence and responsible procurement require.

The problem

Where the research goes today.

  • Supplier discovery is a spreadsheet exercise

Finding SMEs, diverse suppliers or local businesses in a category means exports, filters and cross-referencing several databases.

  • Due diligence is repeated by hand

Ownership, directors, accounts and charges are checked one supplier at a time, then checked again at renewal.

  • Market engagement lacks evidence

Knowing who else a supplier works for, what they have won and how resilient they are shapes a better engagement strategy.

Example questions

Ask it the way you would ask an analyst.

  • “Which construction SMEs have won public-sector contracts in the North West and show strong financial resilience?”
  • “Which suppliers in this category have experienced ownership, financial or director changes?”
  • “Which of our suppliers are also paid by other councils, and how much?”
  • “Find VCSE or diverse-owned suppliers for this CPV code within 30 miles.”
  • “Who ultimately owns this supplier?”

Example MCP workflow

How the investigation runs.

  1. 1. Ask

A category manager pastes a supplier list or describes a category and region.

  2. 2. Resolve

The agent resolves names to registration numbers through the company index.

  3. 3. Investigate

Ownership, officers, accounts, charges, awards and spend are queried through entitled modules.

  4. 4. Report

One sourced page per supplier, with changes since the last check highlighted.

Understanding the request

The agent breaks the question into the conditions it must satisfy.

  • Geography: North West
  • Sector: construction
  • Public awards
  • Resilience indicators

Each condition maps to one or more DataGardener intelligence layers. Nothing is guessed: if a condition cannot be evidenced, the agent says so.

Time-saving logic

Due diligence time

If a supplier health check takes hours of analyst time across several sources, and your team performs dozens a month, an agent that runs the investigation and attaches the evidence can return most of that time to judgement rather than data gathering.
